Eric Hacker helps businesses, families and individuals with a broad range of Delaware legal matters. He practices across the firm's Business Litigation, Real Estate, and Family Law groups.
Eric handles both trials and appeals. He regularly assists clients in all of the Delaware courts, including the Court of Chancery and the Delaware Supreme Court. Since joining Morris James, Eric has helped clients with numerous issues: land use litigation, consumer fraud cases, homeowner association disputes, contract cases, and employment disputes. Eric has also represented clients in administrative agency proceedings and in Family Court proceedings, including divorce, support and custody cases. He has particular experience with disputes that cross multiple legal jurisdictions.
Eric also helps clients structure their business and personal relationships to avoid disputes and litigation. He drafts agreements, such as business contracts and premarital agreements. He also forms or restructures entities based on his clients' needs and goals, and he advises clients on best practices. Eric also assists closely-held family businesses to ensure the smooth transition of their businesses from one generation to the next.
Prior to joining Morris James, Eric worked as an appeals hearing officer for the Delaware Department of Labor and a law clerk for the Family Court of the State of Delaware. In law school, he served as a summer law clerk with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, as a summer associate with a global law firm, and as a litigation intern with the Federal Trade Commission. He was also a successful moot court competitor and coach, competing in domestic competitions as well as the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria.
In addition to his regular practice, Eric also participates in numerous pro bono and educational activities. He represents pro bono clients through Delaware Volunteer Legal Services, and he serves as an attorney guardian ad litem through the Office of the Child Advocate. Eric teaches law courses as an adjunct with Delaware Technical & Community College and helps coach the Sussex Central High School Mock Trial team. Eric also serves as an arbitrator for the Vis Moot.
