Mark Olson divides his practice between federal and Delaware tax matters, and planning involving the use of Delaware trusts.  His clients include individuals, closely held businesses, financial institutions, and real estate owners, investors and developers.


  • Advising trustees of Delaware Statutory Trusts in connection with judicial resolution proceedings
  • Advising real estate owners and investors in structuring complex like kind exchanges, including reverse exchanges, and build-to-suit and parking transactions
  • Counseling financial institutions and other clients in connection with modification of existing trusts through changes of situs, decanting, non-judicial settlement agreements and grantor consent agreements
  • Advising closely held business owners in implementing S corporation elections with Qualified Subchapter S Trusts and Electing Small Business Trusts as stockholders
  • Successfully defending estate tax, gift tax and income tax return examinations
  • Working with closely held business owners to develop and implement succession plans
  • Implementing successful strategies for tax-advantaged intra-family transfers of real property and closely held business interests and other assets
