Thomas E. Hanson, Jr. is a corporate and commercial litigator with nearly 20 years of experience representing large and medium size companies in a wide range of business law disputes. Tom frequently practices in the Delaware Court of Chancery, the Complex Commercial Litigation Division of the Delaware Superior Court and the Federal District of Delaware. Tom’s clients appreciate his trial skills, his knowledge of Delaware law and his ability to develop creative strategies for achieving the desired outcome.

Tom’s practice focuses on disputes involving fiduciary duties, corporate governance, breaches of contract (including purchase and sale agreements), limited liability company agreements, trade secret protection and restrictive covenants. Tom also frequently litigates expedited matters in the Delaware Court of Chancery involving requests for temporary restraining orders and preliminary injunctions, and has extensive experience in managing and conducting electronic discovery.  Among other favorable results, Tom, as lead trial counsel, recently obtained a defense verdict in a breach of contract case involving a claim for $15 million in damages.     

Among other major corporations, Tom has represented DuPont, Verizon Delaware, Inc., Sony Electronics Inc. and Radio One, Inc.  Tom has been called a “hero” by a major client and commended for taking the time to understand the business issues necessary for a favorable result. Tom is also the 2014 recipient of the prestigious DuPont Minority Counsel Network Torchbearer Award, the 2011 recipient of the Multicultural Judges & Lawyers Section Leadership Award and the 2009 recipient of the Wilmington Award for Community Service.
