I Fell On a Friend’s Property, and I Don’t Want to Sue Them, but My Bills are Piling Up—What Should I Do?

Posted In Slip and Fall

Slip and fall accidents are an unfortunately all-too-common occurrence. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), millions of people fall each year—and more than one out of every four individuals 65 or older falls annually. The CDC says that three million older individuals (65 and up) go to emergency departments for treatment from falling every year, and there are 800,000 people who are hospitalized.

Slip and fall accidents can happen anywhere: at home, walking in the neighborhood, or shopping for groceries. But what if you slip and fall on the steps outside a friend’s apartment? In this scenario, many questions arise. What happens next? For the injured party, they will likely want someone to be responsible for their medical bills, yet they do not want to sue their friend. So who is responsible? How does the injured individual get their money? After an incident, an individual should find an experienced slip and fall attorney to help them navigate these pressing questions. More ›

Understanding Boat Insurance

Boating accidents are unfortunately an all-too-common occurrence in the United States. To illustrate how widespread this issue is, consider that according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s 2020 Recreational Boating Statistics Report there were 767 boating fatalities in 2020, which represented a staggering 25.1 percent increase from 2019. According to the same report, there were 5,265 total accidents, and the total number of injured victims was 3,191—with both figures also representing a roughly 25 percent increase from the previous year. Add in the fact that property damage totaled over $62 million, and it becomes clear that having boating insurance is an absolute must.  More ›

Is Suing for a Boating Accident the Same as a Car Accident?

Injuries from a boating accident can be very serious, even fatal. The laws that govern boats are much less restrictive than those for cars and trucks. States differ on the type of licensing and education boaters need, and on the minimum age to operate a boat.  More ›

Is the driver of the rear vehicle always at fault in a rear-end car accident case?

Posted In Car Accidents, FAQs

When a car and the vehicle in front of it collide, resulting in a rear-end accident, the prevailing wisdom is that the driver of the second vehicle is almost always at fault, as they had a duty to follow at a safe distance and—had they done so—could have presumably prevented the crash. While this is often the case, the presumption that the second driver is always to blame doesn't hold true for every rear-end accident. More ›
