Remembering Eugene H. Bayard

We are saddened to share the news of the loss of our longtime partner and good friend, Eugene H. Bayard.

Gene passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021. He was born June 19, 1946, in Charlottesville, VA, to A.I. du Pont Bayard and Jane Brady Hildreth Bayard.

Gene attended Tower Hill School, St. Paul’s School, Princeton University, and the University of Virginia. At Princeton, he was a member of the 21 Club, the non-political social organization Right Wing Club and Ivy Club.

Gene practiced law in Georgetown for 47 years. During his professional life, he served on the boards of a number of Delaware not-for-profit and for-profit corporations. Immediately prior to his death, these included Delaware State Fair, Delaware Wild Lands Inc., Chesapeake Utilities, Harrington Raceway & Casino (chair), O.A. Newton and J.G. Townsend Jr. & Co. He was a member of the Bayou Club, Kings Creek Country Club, Wilmington Country Club and Wilmington Club.

Gene is survived by his wife Diane and two daughters, Molly Bayard Brittingham (Matt) and Avery. He is also survived by three brothers Richard H., John F. and William B.; one sister Jane B. Curley, their families, and by the family of his deceased brother A.I. du Pont Bayard Jr.
