Morris James Donates $10,000 to Culture Restoration Project

Morris James is proud to announce its $10,000 donation to the Culture Restoration Project, an organization dedicated to developing critical thinking skills and social understanding of youth in Wilmington through culturally appropriate and relevant programming. The donation emphasizes the law firm’s statement on racial injustice issued after the brutal killing of George Floyd.

“Morris James is strongly committed to making a difference in the Delaware community, including doing our part to strengthen the principles of inclusion, justice, and equality for the black and brown communities,” said Keith Donovan, Managing Partner of Morris James. “We know that words are not enough and action is needed. We hope our donation not only invigorates the Culture Restoration Project but also encourages other Delaware businesses to take action."

“Our research reveals that 85% of Delaware youth involved with the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate and less than four out of ten students are proficient in math,” said Richard Raw, Wilmington Activist, Musician, and CoFounder of Culture Restoration Project. “These statistics inspired us to build our interactive and unique educational curriculum.”

The Culture Restoration Project focuses on the intentional development of culture as the empowering foundation upon which black and brown communities can thrive. Educational curriculum utilizes interactive and unique tools such as the hip-hop based pedagogy to promote reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. Most recently, the CRP collaborated with New Castle County on a community event to promote participation in the 2020 Census. Families who signed up for the census were gifted roller skates. Prior to this event, the Culture Restoration Project initiated the sidewalk art installation, created by JaQuanne LeRoy, and the rising of the Pan-African Flag in Spencer Plaza.
